Two Linton police cars are sporting new sporty stripes and a newly-fashiion logo.

Linton Police Department Chief Troy Jerrell is excited about two news cars -- each sporting a new look -- his department recently purchaed.

The department recently purchased two 2007 Chevy Impalas from Ken Schrader's Linton Motors, and Fred Markle of Markle's Classic Signs has been working on the new stripe packages for the vehicles.

The new vehicles come with a police package which offer heavier duty brakes, alternators and transmissions compared to regular vehicles, Jerrell said.

"Everyone seems to think it's the motor we're after when you talk police package, but that's not necessarily the case. Regular cars aren't really made or designed for every thing we put them through police wise," Jerrell said.

The new cars also have a new look -- a new look the department's current vehicles will receive in the near future.

"In the past we always had the two tone or three tone blue stripes that run the length of the vehicle minus the word 'police.' They caused us all kinds of problems. The guys who put them on for us did a good job, did everything they could do to keep them on there, but you're just putting a thin strip of sticker the length of a car," he said. "The (blue) color that we have now they had to actually hand spray or paint that and put one sticker on top of another. It was a little more complicated, a little more expensive and it was problematic because you're having to paint stickers and put those stickers on top of other stickers.

"We wanted to go with something simpler, but still have a nice, newer look to it," Jerrell said.

The new stripe package says "Linton Police. Serving Our Community" in black lettering. It also includes the department's new logo, which has been used since the first of the year. The new logo is also included on the officer's uniforms.

"One thing we're adding to the cars, which was a request of the guys, is their unit numbers," Jerrell said.

LPD Patrolman Chad Crynes is currently driving one of the department's new cars. It's undetermined right now what officer will drive the other new car.

"It's really nice," Crynes said of the new vehicle and stripe package. "I like it real well. I'd had nothing but compliments. Everyone seems to like it.
