The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives is in Linton today serving a federal search warrant on the
properties of Mark E. Green.
The search stems from a February arrest when several
types of ammunition were found in Green's vehicle during a traffic stop.
When Green, 48, was stopped for failing to signal a
turn at the intersection of SR 54 and SR 59 in February, he gave officers
permission to search his vehicle. They found rolling papers and a one-hitter
pipe with a burnt plant substance in it that field-tested positive for
marijuana. He had a 1995 charge of possession, making the new charge a Class D
felony.
Chief Keith McDonald of the Linton Police Department
said it's a federal offense for a convicted felon to possess firearms, so after
the February discovery, contact was initiated with the ATF office in
"ATF is here to serve the warrant," McDonald
said. "We're assisting."
He said ATF officers found drug paraphernalia and
residue during their search, so LPD Patrol Officer Josh Goodman filed for an
"They're here looking strictly for weapons and
ammunition," McDonald said of ATF.
ATF officials were unavailable for comment.
McDonald said Green and another individual in the home
were both cooperative.
McDonald said LPD had surveillance on Green's home
near Third and I Sts. NW prior to the warrant being served this morning. He
said Green left just before ATF was prepared to serve the warrant, so LPD
stopped Green and brought him back to the house.
