Linton Patrol Officer Josh Goodman has been named Officer of the Year for 2005.

He was awarded a plaque during the Linton Police Department's Christmas gathering Dec. 16.

“It was an honor to get it,” Goodman said.

A full-time police officer since January 2003, Goodman started as a reserve officer in August 2002. He provides guidance on narcotics cases, along with his general duties. He said narcotics cases are probably the most exciting, yet most dangerous part of the job.

His efforts in that area are primarily what earned him the award, according to LPD Chief Keith McDonald. He said Goodman has gone above and beyond the call of duty in time and dedication to the job. He said the department has made dozens of drug arrests in the past year, and he gives Goodman much of the credit.

“It's mainly because of the extra effort he's put forth in drug investigations,” McDonald said. “Pretty much all of the officers were involved, but Josh took the lead.”

Goodman said he hopes to always be a cop.

“It's what I wanted to do since I was a little kid,” he said.

The 2005 LPD Officer of the Year grew up in the Linton area, and he and his wife, Danielle, have a 2-year-old son named Cameron. He also was named Officer of the Year in 2003.
