Welcome to the Linton Police Department's Training Page Here you will find information and photos of some of our training experiences Full Time Police Officers Full time City Police Officer are mandated by the State of Indiana to graduate from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy which is a 3 month residential Training program. Once completed every Officer is required to have a minimum of 16 hours of training a year. Included in these hours are mandatory classes such as Domestic Violence, Hazardous materials, Chins (child in need of services), S.I.D.S. (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The Linton Police Department's average for each officer is well beyond the 16 hours required. Over half of our full time Officers is specialized in at least one or more areas of expertise. Reserve Officers Reserve Officers are required by the State of Indiana to have completed a 40 hour Pre-Basic course of instruction. During this 40 hour of instruction they are taught by Certified Instructors through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. After completion of the Pre-Basic Course they are also required to have the same 16 hours a year training as the full time Officers. Not only do our Reserves complete the above training we have several mandates as well before they are considered to be on their own. We require that a Reserve Office must have been fully instructed on pre-determined areas and have a total of 120 hours minimum training prior to patrolling in a vehicle by their self. Once the Reserve has completed this training they have met all requirements by the State of Indiana and The Linton Police Department. They may patrol, make traffic stops as well as make arrest. However they never work alone, anytime a Reserve Officer is working there is always a full time paid Officer working as well. LPD & LFD Training room
